Banat Opinyon

St. Valentine’s Day

SENIOR CITIZEN - Antolin dela Serna - Banat

Atong kutloon kining gikan sa Internet: “Having a particular Valentine’s Day is a very old tradition, thought to have originated from a Roman festival.

The Romans had a festival called Lupercalia in the middle of February - officially the start of their springtime. It’s thought that as part of the celebrations, boys drew names of girls from a box.”

Tubag sa Internet: “Officially recognized by the Roman Catholic Church,  St. Valentine is known to be a real person who died around A.D. 270.”

So, as far as the Roman Catholic Church is concerned, si St. Valentine tinuod nga tawo ug tinuod nga santos. Kon dili mo motuo niini, tagai mi og laing tinubdan nga manghimakak niini. Or mag-imbento mo og laing Valentine.

Tubag: “Valentine worked miracles. The most famous miracle attributed to St. Valentine occurred through a letter he is said to have written to a young blind girl before his martyrdom. The girl miraculously gained her sight to read the note.”

Gumikan sa mga milagro nga iyang nabuhat, gikasilagan siya sa emperador, ug  matud dinhi, “Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Valentine was arrested and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off.”

Gilatigo ug gipunggotan pa gayud sa ulo. Kuyawa no?

Ang unang Valentine’s Day gisaulog niadtong tuig 496. Dugaya na no? Indeed, usa ka old, old tradition.

Dugang pa: “Saint Valentine was a clergyman – either a priest or a bishop – in the Roman Empire who ministered to persecuted Christians.

He is the patron saint of lovers, epileptics, and beekeepers. St. Valentine was a Roman priest and physician who suffered martyrdom during the persecution of Christians by the emperor Claudius II Gothicus about 270.

Gugma.  Ania ang Bibliya: “Let us love one another, for love comes from God.

Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Happy Valemtine’s Day!
