Banat Opinyon

Mahimo ba kaha sa atong nasud ang Electoral College?

SENIOR CITIZEN - Antolin dela Serna - Banat

Una sa tanan, kining maong pangutana: “Why did they create the Electoral College?

Ang tubag:

“The Electoral College was created by the framers of the U.S. Constitution as an alternative to electing the president by popular vote or by Congress. ... Several weeks after the general election, electors from each state meet in their state capitals and cast their official vote for president and vice president.”

So, inay nga ang matag botante mopili directly sa kandidato pagka-presidente, sama sa atong sistema dinhi sa atong nasud, ilang gitukod ang Electoral College, silbing alternative o puli sa pagpili og president pinaag sa popular voting.

Niay laing pangutana: “ How are electors chosen for the Electoral College?” Tubag:  ‘Instead, the election of the president of the United States is a two-step process. First, voters cast ballots on Election Day in each state. In nearly every state, the candidate who gets the most votes wins the "electoral votes" for that state, and gets that number of voters (or "electors") in the "Electoral College."

Lisud sabton no? Wa man gud ni sa ato. Ambot nganong gipaagi pa man ni nila sa Electoral College, hangtod hinuon na adunay sugyot o movement nga wagtangon ang Electoral College.

Anyway, aniay dugang katin-awan:

“If you're a United States citizen, 18 years of age or older, you probably think you have the right to vote for presidential candidates in the national election. That's partially correct. When citizens cast their ballots for president in the popular vote, they elect a slate of electors. Electors then cast the votes that decide who becomes president of the United States.”

So, inig botar nila didto in a popular election, sama nato dinhi, magpili usab sila og mga elector ug sila na ang magpili pagka-presidente.

Ug nia Pa: “Usually, electoral votes align with the popular vote in an election. But a number of times in our nation's history, the person who took the White House did not receive the most popular votes.” So, ang popular votes dili maoy makapadaug nimo.

Nganong gipaagi man gyud sa electoral votes? Tubag: “The founders thought that the use of electors would give our country a representative president, while avoiding a corruptible national election.”

In the case ni Marcos pananglitan, kon ang Solid North votes ray iyang gisaligan, apan, pilde siya sa ubang lugar sa Visayas ug Mindanao, dili siya maisip nga usa ka representative president.

Ug labaw sa tanan, kalikayan ang corruption. “The members of the General Convention did indulge the hope [that] by apportioning, limiting, and confining the Electors within their respective States, and by the guarded manner of giving and transmitting the ballots of the Electors to the Seat of Government, that intrigue, combination, and corruption, would be effectually shut out. “

“Sa ,man, mag-electoral college sad ta dinhi sa ato?
