The last survey

The latest and last Pulse Asia survey has come out. Based on its results, the numbers of Marcos and Vice President Robredo have hardly moved where Marcos still enjoys a substantial lead. On the other hand, Sen. Manny Pacquiao has surpassed Mayor Isko Moreno by a small margin. Given the results, the accuracy of the said survey has been questioned. If that is to be believed, there is a good chance that Marcos will be the next president.

But some experts say some groups were underrepresented such as those aged 18 to 41 as well as those with a college education. Class D and E also have more representation compared to Class A and B. Pulse Asia defended its sampling of survey respondents. They have been doing this for a long time. They claim to use established methods of sampling. Perhaps many were surprised at the non-movement of numbers after the large rallies that took place in various parts of the country. They were expecting numbers to increase.

One candidate said surveys were just to condition voters. He even goes as far as to say those behind the surveys must be held accountable if poverty still exists after a front-running candidate has won. Those lagging in the survey are still confident of pulling up an upset come May 9th. The real numbers come out on election day claiming most of their supporters were not represented in the survey. After the smoke clears on May 9, we will see if the Pulse Asia survey is accurate or if there is a difference in the actual voting.

I should mention in the last Pulse Asia survey that 72% of those aged 18 to 24 allegedly chose Marcos. This is the generation that has never experienced Martial Law, so they know nothing about it. Marcos’ camp successfully erased or changed history, especially at the grassroots level. They do not know the evils of Martial Law because they were conditioned to accept, that these never happened or were hearsay. There may be a shortcoming of the educational curriculum, particularly in the country’s history as shown by the “MaJoHa” fiasco. I would think the reasons why a dictator would be ousted and forced to leave the country along with his whole family deserve to be taught. What exactly do they think of when shown pictures of EDSA 1986 or when they see the monument along EDSA? Or talk to the relatives of those forced abductions during martial law because they spoke out against Marcos? Or would they still believe the fake news that prevails on social media and forget history?
