Effective delivery of synchronous teaching

READER’S VIEWS - The Freeman

“How will you describe yourself in integrating technology into classroom instruction?” asked by the first speaker Teacher Mark. Teachers all over the Philippines who are attending the virtual INSET today via DepEd Philippines responded through menti.com. It shows that 37% of the teachers say they are beginners, 25% are advanced, 27% are competent, 11% of them are proficient, and only 1% are experts.

But all educators will agree that this is a learning modality that we can possibly deliver instruction in the absence of face to face. Yes we just have to adhere to the following considerations. First, better internet connection is the prime essential need in the delivery instruction through online learning. Second, proper centralized online materials must be available to the teachers to access anytime and empower them on its proper usage.

Thirdly, I agree with the speaker Teacher Mark that teachers need proper guidance and direction from coaches and mentors from school, district, division and from higher offices through close monitoring and giving of technical assistance.

Lastly, teachers also have to increase efforts in communicating their needs and work collaboratively with the learners, parents and all the school community members and stakeholders in order to improve learning outcomes. Indeed, online synchronous teaching is already part of the future in education.

We just have to try and take one step at a time in its implementation while we ask the government to provide us the quality internet connection and gadgets that online teaching needs. — Ronald N. Llerin OIC-PSDS, SD 7
