Why are China and Russia mum over Biden's victory?

World leaders, from Europe to the Middle East and even up to the Asia Pacific rim, have all congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. The presidents of China and Russia have remained silent. And their silence speaks volumes. The world knows why. They were rooting for the loser. And they are defeated too.

Angela Merkel, the iconic chancellor of the powerful Germany, and recognized leading voice of the EU, was among the first to issue her virtual recognition of the Biden victory. She was cheering Kamala Harris for her historic achievement as the first-ever female vice president of the male-dominated American nation, which is acknowledged by most countries as the greatest economic and military world power. Merkel was joined by France leader Emanuel Macron. He said that the Americans have chosen their president and France is ready to cooperate with the newly-elected leader as he works to overcome today's challenges. Macron offered his voice to Biden: "Let's work together''.

Justin Trudeau, the young and personable prime minister of Canada, who is a son of a former prime minister himself, Pierre Trudeau, twitted to say: Congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Our two countries are close friends, partners and allies. We have a relationship that's unique in the world stage. I'm looking forward to working together with both of you.” Canada is a next-door neighbor of the US and shares one of the longest borders from the state of Washington in the west up to Niagara Falls in the east and even up to the rims of Maine. These two countries have been trade partners and political and economic allies for centuries.

India's leader Narendra Modi has expressed his felicitations to Biden and was extra happy with his choice of Kamala Harris whose mother was a Tamil Indian who migrated to America. He hailed Kamala's success as pathbreaking for all Indian girls and women. Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, although a very close friend to the incumbent president, was one of the earliest to congratulate Joe Biden, calling him by his nickname, saying: "Joe, we've had a long and warm personal relationship for 40 years, and I know you as a great friend of Israel. I look forward to working with both of you to further strengthen the special alliance between the US and Israel.”

Boris Johnson, the prime minister of UK, also a friend of the incumbent US president, and likewise a COVID survivor, has also emphasized that the US is UK's most important ally and that he looks forward to working with Biden on the two nation's shared priorities from climate change to trade and security. The Irish prime minister, Michael Martin, declared: "Joe Biden has been a true friend of this nation throughout his life and I look forward to work with him. I would love to welcome him here once the circumstances would allow. Australia's prime minister, Scott Morrison, likewise a friend of the current US president, considers Joe Biden a great friend of Australia over many years. He says that Biden is stepping into the world leadership role at a time when the world battles the COVID-19 pandemic.

South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, the ASEAN nations, including the Philippines, even the tiny Maldives do welcome Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. The Middle East also recognizes Biden's victory. Only China, Russia and the golfing and tweeting incumbent White House resident are refusing to accept the indubitable reality. One thing therefore is proven --Biden is not a socialist. The socialist nations are not celebrating with the rest of the world.
