Let’s give President Duterte the chance

READER’S VIEWS - Jose Hortelano - The Freeman

The marching order that President Duterte had given to the Department of Justice to investigate all government agencies involved in corruption is a very much welcome move. According to the President his administration will focus on the problem of corruption until tenure in office expires come 2022. However, I am skeptical that given such a short time his goal of eradicating corruption would be accomplished. Corruption is greatly embedded and or ingrained in our political system that eradicating it is such a herculean task.

It is said that in every problem there is always a solution. One good idea in order for the President to have ample time is to amend the constitution and extend his tenure of office. Another idea although this would elicit negative reactions from the leftists, is for the President to declare a revolutionary form of government with him in full control, it is easy for the President to weed out corrupt government officials and streamline government bureaus.

It is said that "few things are needful for a wise man but nothing satisfies the fool, the reason why humanity is suffering and people are sucked in the quagmire of poverty".

This country is now in the quagmire of poverty because of corruption. The only person who could lift us out of our present dire situation is President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Please, let's give him the chance.
