School–home partnership in MDL

READER'S VIEWS - Cerelina S. Llerin - The Freeman

How is your printed Modular Distance Learning experience since the October 5 class opening? YES we should fully embrace this reality on MDL.

Printed MDL is a learning delivery modality where learners are given printed materials and they will undertake self-directed study at home. It is true that the learners engage in independent learning at home by using the provided printed learning materials while being geographically distant from their teacher.

But we should always bear in mind that the teacher still supervises and monitors the learners’ progress and provides remediation and enhancement when needed and possible. And it is important that assistance should also be provided by the learning facilitator who may a parent or any member of the family or a neighbor or any community stakeholder.

Home-school partnership is very essential in this printed MDL. The Department of Education ensures that the teachers will be able to make close follow to the learning progress and concerns of every child enrolled in her class. She provides Home Learning Plan and every learner complies with the Daily Log Plan.

The teacher also designed mechanisms where she has to reach out to every learner through phone calls, text messages, FB group chats of the parents of her class and even conduct at least once a week virtual meetings to those learners whose internet accessibility is possible. Open communication is ready to every parent who needs academic and technical assistance from the teacher.

The pandemic affects home, school and the entire community. Cooperation with a heart is what we all need for we should always LEARN AS ONE.
