‘No danger is so near that God is not nearer’

READER'S VIEWS - Cerelina S. Llerin - The Freeman

A bishop, in his homily, stated that during the celebration of the Holy Mass the faithful need not wear masks because he averred that since according to our Catholic Christian belief God is present in the Eucharist and in God's company whom shall we fear? Meaning that since God is with us in the house of worship Satan the devil can do no harm since God is there to protect us from harm including infection from the dreaded corona virus or COVID-19.

This pronouncement of the Bishop drew flak from different sectors because this is a clear violation of the health protocols the government imposed during this time of pandemic to control the spread of the virus. However, the bishop has a point. For a true believer in the Almighty nothing is impossible with God. Only the skeptics and non-believers do not agree to the line of reasoning of the bishop. Besides, the bishop did not say not to wear a mask outside but only inside the church during mass for God is there to protect His children.

Though it is said that "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure", there is also a saying which goes, "No danger is so near that God is not nearer".
