Cayetano is Peter, Velasco is Lord

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez - The Freeman

And we know that Peter betrayed the Lord, not once, not twice but no less than three times. And so, when Peter dies, he will be crucified upside down as a punishment for not honoring his words. These are biblical events that find parallel in the spectacle of the fight for speakership.

Peter, who was Simon, brother of Andrew from Galilee was asked by the Lord, not once, not twice, but three times: Simon, son of John, do you love me? And Simon answered three times, you know very well, Lord, that I love you. Then, feed my lambs. Take care of my sheep. That was the Lord's reply. In Mt. Tabor, in the presences of John, James, and Simon, Jesus asked three times again: Who do they say the son of man is? James answered: That thou art Moses. John answered: People say that thou art Elijah. And you, Simon, who do the people say I am? And he answered, without winking: Thou art Christ, the son of the living God.

To which the Lord answered: Blessed are you, Simon, son of John. The lips of men did not give this knowledge to you. This comes from the heavens, that you have been favored with such a wisdom like this. Therefore, thou art Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my Church. I shall entrust to you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whoever you shall set free will be set free. Whoever you shall bind, will be bound. And that was like Lord Allan Velasco entrusting to Alan Peter the keys to the House of Representatives but only for 15 months. When the 15-month period expired, Peter wanted to hold on to the throne.

Peter denied the Lord thrice and the cock confirmed it not once, not twice, but three times. He was asked to confirm or deny that he was a disciple of Christ. He denied and he did it three times. Peter assured Jesus that he would be defending him, and even cut the soldier's ear with his sword. But he was admonished by the Lord that he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword. Alan Peter Cayetano promised to honor his words but he cut the ears of his own credibility by denying the Lord and by reneging on his promise. He who lives by lies will die by lies.

Where was Peter when the Lord was crucified? He was hiding. Only the youngest and the meekest of them all, John, the beloved remained at the foot of the cross. Peter was chosen by the Lord as the Speaker among his disciples because he was indeed a good speaker. He was articulate, eloquent and he had a mastery of the words. But he broke his words, not once, not twice, not even just three times. Therefore, in this current brouhaha in the House speakership, the villain is Peter and the hero is the Lord. The sympathy of the people and the support of the majority of House membership has shifted to the Lord.

If Peter has remorse, he must go to the Lord, reconcile with him and continue to enjoy his favor. And the Judases, Estases, and Caiaphases surrounding Peter should beware. Their days of glory and hype will soon be over. Watch out what will happen tomorrow. It will be the day that the Lord will make. And miracles will happen. Sinners will be converted. And salvation will descend upon the House.
