Knowing the next US president and vice president

On the premise that whatever happens in US politics will definitely impact on the Philippines, it is imperative that we Filipinos should be updated on the trends and developments in the US political campaign for the American polls come November. Our bold prediction is that Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will win over Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

Some Filipinos are asking, who is Joe Biden? Well, he was Barrack Obama's vice president for two terms (from 2009 to 2012 and from 2013 to 2017) and, in case you don't know, he is the first Roman Catholic vice president since John Adams won as George Washington's vice president in 1789. If he wins, I am always sure he will, he will be the second US president who is a practicing Roman Catholic, second only to the great John F. Kennedy. Biden's life has been one of decency, honor, hard work, and integrity. Biden is the complete opposite of President Donald Trump.

Biden was born in 1942 at the start of World War II, and when he assumes the presidency, he will be the oldest to enter the While House. He attempted many times to run for president, in 1988, then in 2008 but was unsuccessful. He became a lawyer in 1969, and after some local county and state political positions, he was elected to the US senate six times and was consistently reelected with progressively increasing number of votes, representing the state of Delaware from 1978 to 2005. His first wife died in a car accident one week before Christmas in 1972. He remarried in 1977.

Kamala Harris is the eldest daughter of an Indian immigrant from Tamil, India, who went to the US to pursue higher studies in medicine. She met a Jamaican student who also went to the US to study economics. The two students finished their studies and got married but divorced when Kamala was seven years old. Kamala finished BA in Harvard and Law in the University of California in Hastings. She was elected attorney general in her home state and then later ran for the US Senate, serving as the first term as junior senator with Dianne Feistein.

As of today, a number of polls show that Biden is leading Trump even in states where Trump won over Hillary Clinton in 2016. In battleground states like Arizona, Biden leads 45% to 44%. In both Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Biden leads by five points over the incumbent. It is only in North Carolina that Trump leads by a narrow 1%. Of course, California, Hawaii, Washington, Illinois, and New York are definitely for Biden and Harris. It will be an uphill battle for the incumbent. The political winds are favoring the opposition. I believe very strongly that Trump will be a one-term president.

It has always been my stand that the Democrats are kinder, more reasonable in treating the Filipinos in America, and in dealing with the Philippines as a strategic ally in the Far East. History bears me out that our country and people are better off with Democrats than with the GOP. I stand by that belief now strongly as ever.
