Confusion pass

VERBAL VARIETY - Anne Fe Perez - The Freeman

When the Cebu City quarantine passes were given out last weekend, the whole citizenry was shocked. They were too big, as large as a bond paper and not even enough for every household. It was made of ordinary paper that could easily be crumpled, wet, and destroyed. Memes were made by netizens who made fun of the whole situation. Imagine, issuing 178,000 passes to the households that should be done quickly to beat the period given for the Enhanced Community Quarantine.

I really don't know how to feel that it is only Cebu City being placed under ECQ. It means that we cannot move on forward as the rest. The confusion on the passes only added more shame to the tag as the hardheaded individuals already have. To show how creative people are so that they could go out, fake quarantine passes were made. It only proves that despite the stay-at-home order, others really want to go out. I can't blame them though, because it is excruciating to stay inside a house made of plywood with no ventilation and food.

The barangays had to revalidate passes with QR codes because there were fake ones. Now there is double effort and it makes it even more tedious for one just to go out. Not to mention there are checkpoints everywhere which would make it all the more tiring. It has occurred to me that I would rather just buy in one outing what I need for the next days to avoid going out. But then again, with a privilege check, not everyone is like me. In some sitios, they are controlling the passes and would log whoever would go out and use the pass. While this may be an effective way to lessen the number of people going out, it is also exhausting to get in line for your turn so you may buy all your essentials.

From how I see it, I think it is high time that we should help one another and adjust. We should stop demanding from City Hall despite their lapses. If one could go out, why not ask your neighbors what they need and buy for them if you can. If you have a vehicle, why not load it up with what others would probably need so they would not have to go out. Everyone should stop asserting their right to go out, especially if it is very unreasonable. If they ask you to stay home, then find ways to stay home. We should not keep on passing the blame to others but instead make do with what we have.

It is already sickening to keep on hearing national officials that we are not doing well with COVID-19 response. I think we should all reflect on that and stop blaming. We have to adjust so this would all be over. If not, then another ECQ might hit us. We wouldn't want that again.
