Protect senior citizens; don’t isolate them

Yesterday’s editorial of The FREEMAN entitled “What is China Trying to Hide?” was indeed a question that the whole world affected by the coronavirus would like to know -- whether it is Australia, the United States, or the European Union. As the editorial points out: “China has warned Australia to back off in its calls for an independent investigation into the origins of the COVID-19 virus.

“According to a foreign news website, China ambassador to Australia Cheng Jingye said Australia ‘risked inflaming resentment among Chinese parents by teaming up with…forces in Washington to launch a kind of political campaign against China.’ To put more teeth to its threat, China hinted that it might boycott Australian universities, and may encourage Chinese citizens not to buy Australian products. There are now calls to investigate the origin of the virus, especially after various sources claimed that the virus did not appear to be natural. No doubt China is aware of the more vicious rumors, that COVID-19 was actually created in a lab in Wuhan and got out.

“This just goes to show how wild rumors about COVID-19 can get.

If China wants to lay those rumors to rest, then why not allow a probe into the origins of COVID-19? Aside from quashing vicious rumors that actually paint China in a bad light, it can also help hasten the search for a vaccine. The more medical experts know about the virus the faster they can find a cure for it.”To help ease our boredom in our homes, we’ve search the social media networks, looked into major news websites and YouTube, and let me tell you that almost all the countries that have suffered from the coronavirus have been asking the same questions. China, with its Chinese Communist Party (CPP) propaganda, has been denying and saying that the virus came from a Wuhan wet market. But this has already been debunked and the CCP has not changed its stories where most people deem this to be nothing but lies.

It is for this very reason why there should be an International Commission (like the Nuremberg Trials after World War II) to investigate how this virus started. People might ask: Why not the United Nations (UN)? We already know that UN officials have been corrupted by China. Just take a look at the World Health Organization (WHO) whose leader is apparently a Marxist who works with China than the rest of the world. This is why it is high time also for the UN to be investigated by an independent body so we could get into the bottom of things.

Remember how Nazi Germany rose to power? One lesson we learned was that they used the propaganda machinery of Josef Goebbels whom the German people belatedly realized that when Allied bombs were falling into Berlin, they were selling to the German people that Germany was winning the war, even if the Russian Army was in the outskirts of Berlin! In my book, the CCP propaganda machinery is a total copy of Goebbels propaganda.

Did I get it right that the Department of Health considered that senior citizens (meaning 60 years old and above) are not allowed to leave their homes? I just got a statement that has become viral that senior citizens should not be isolated but protected. That statement declares: “The proposed mandatory quarantine (House arrest of all Senior Citizens is unfair and unconstitutional! It is arbitrary and discriminatory application of the law limiting our human and civil rights.” 

It added: “While we appreciate the concern for our safety against the dreaded COVID-19 the proposed mandate that senior citizens to be restricted to stay home is ill-conceived and ill-planned, devoid of proper and in-depth economic and demographic analyses. The assumption on health vulnerability by the DOH is not based on conclusive study and research and at best a cautionary assumption. Many young and healthy people also got infected by COVID-19.”

Lastly, it said: “Many Senior Citizens especially those in the 60-65 years of age are still gainfully employed and are supporting their families and even their grandchildren. Some of them need to work and many of them are even healthier than the over-socializing and vice-filled younger workers.”

Mind you, I’m in this age category, and I question the DOH for making this suggestion, which would mean Governor Gwen Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella cannot go out of their homes. It is wrong!
