Peace talks with the CPP-NPA-NDF futile

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Valeriano Avila - The Freeman

I read this news report from Malacañang that the Communists should be willing to hold talks anywhere if they are sincere in pursuing peace. This was announced after Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) leader Jose Maria Sison announced that he will not participate in the negotiations if these take place in the Philippines. According to presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo, the venue of the talks is immaterial to those who want a peaceful resolution to the longstanding conflict. While I fully agree with Panelo, I also agree that Sison should not participate in any peace talks if it were done in the Philippines because he is scared that if the peace talks fail, and I strongly believe they will fail, he might get arrested here. I find this move of Joma rather logical.

I really don’t know why the Duterte administration still wants to talk peace with the CPP-NPA-NDF when they know that the main objective of this terror organization is to overthrow the Philippine government and install a communist government in the country. Mind you, come December 26 will be the 51st anniversary of the CPP-NPA-NDF rebellion and from a worthy ideology, the communists have resorted to nothing but banditry, which for me can be easily addressed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

What triggered this report about new peace talks with the communists? Apparently last week, Pres. Duterte revealed that he is sending Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to the Netherlands to talk to Sison about what he called his “last card” to end the five-decade-old conflict with the communists. Hearing this report, human rights group Karapatan, expressed its support for the resumption of peace talks between the government and communists. Karapatan Secretary General Cristina Palabay said they will “always welcome” any move to continue the peace negotiations, as well as the release of political prisoners.

“Karapatan expresses its support for the possible resumption of the peace negotiations between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. We support earnest endeavors at attaining peace and resolving the roots of the armed conflict.”

Why in heaven are we trying to talk peace with people who really do not want peace? Sure, our Lord Jesus Christ said, in Matthew 5:0, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.” But when CPP-NPA-NDF rebels openly kill and maim our soldiers, we must stop this radical movement that has not achieved anything in the last five decades of their rebellion.

At this point, the AFP should come up with a simple Navy Seal type of operation and neutralize the CPP-NPA-NDF ideologues. With the AFP getting new equipment, especially the Cobra helicopters given by Jordan, these attack helicopters can be sent to forward areas where the communists are operating. President Duterte still has two and a half years to go, he should neutralize the commies!

We learned that come December 14, Pres. Duterte will be in Cebu for the launching of the 500-day countdown to the quincentennial celebration of the historic battle of Mactan in 2021. According to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, Pres. Duterte will deliver a message at 6:30 p.m. at the Hoops Dome.

Mayor Chan said he has also planned to give a five-minute speech during the event together with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. This will be followed by cultural presentations and the singing of “Bagani,” the quincentennial theme song. Meanwhile, the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) plans to showcase a multi-media state-of-the-art production, featuring the best of contemporary Visayan/Filipino artists and expressions, rooted in the nation’s cultural heritage during this occasion.

The NQC hopes that the upcoming performances will raise awareness among the Filipinos and the world about the Filipino way of commemorating the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the world. There really is much to celebrate together with this event. In 2021, the Philippines will commemorate the 500th anniversary of the its part in the first circumnavigation of the world, Datu Lapu-Lapu’s victory in Mactan, and other related events, and most importantly the Christianization of the Philippines, and the world will see why Filipinos have remained Catholic.
