Bad mouth and bad vibes

VERBAL VARIETY - Annie Perez - The Freeman

I've had bad experiences on social media - both being the victim and the villain in badmouthing. Once, I had to deal with a 41-year-old who thought that all my posts are about her and she rebutted back by posting photos with quotes reflecting her feelings. I even caught her talking about me under an alias which I easily figured out. The result of the petty quarrel went nowhere, and the friendship eroded into nothing but mere acquaintances. When our paths cross, we give each other blank stares and wonder how it has come to this.

Funny how social media could strain a very harmonious relationship. It even reaches a point where friends file charges against each other. My recent coverage included a woman sued for cyberlibel for posting malicious content about her boyfriend’s ex. The woman who couldn't handle the jealousy resorted to social media to tear the reputation of the woman down when she only wanted to be friends with those whom she loved in her past. I find it amazing how screenshots can lead to possibly putting a person behind bars. The risk of posting libelous complaint is tantamount to imprisonment if one would get a conviction from the court.

So how do we avoid all these stress? Simple. Live a happy life and say goodbye to negative vibes. I mean, let us face it. The truth why we resort to this kind of fighting is because we are allowing all the negativity to come in and overtake our current mood. We should choose to stay positive and make the right response even for wrong situations, we are not bound to say harsh words. A lawyer once told me that it is better to sleep on your anger then to vent it out on social media. It makes sense to me, because apart from the fact that you are saving yourself from a potential cyberlibel case, you are also sparing yourself from possible shame.

The same applies to everything in our lives. When we refuse to let the stress of petty things come in, then our days are better and brighter. A good author once said that the first three hours of your day dictate how your life will turn out. True enough, it you inhale all the beautiful things for the hours that you spend as you wake up, there is a certain change in the way we do our routine. The way to a happy heart is to make sure that there is no room for negativity.

I wonder how we would apply this when every day we are faced with such a toxic life. I hope we would all strike a balance between both positivity and negativity so that we would all be happy. When happiness comes, you will get the innate nature to shun away the urge to rant on social media. Give it a try. I tell you it is worth it.
