It’s time to end the media circus

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Valeriano Avila - The Freeman

First off, allow me to thank my good friend, SuperBobby Nalzaro of dySS Superadyo, for mentioning my column yesterday on his very popular radio show on the topic about former mayor Tomas Osmeña who practically lied in his letter to Mayor Edgar Labella. SuperBobby’s texted me saying “Face saving/redeem shattered image lang na ia. Yabag, hehe!”

Almost everyone in Cebu City knows what Osmeña really did to his office, which was viral in social media forum. Unfortunately, it took Osmeña nearly a month to come up with an excuse as to why he went through all the trouble of destroying his office… and ended up lying to his constituents that he was supposed to restore the office but was stopped by then Vice Mayor Edgar Labella’s legal team. He should have addressed his letter to the Marines!

In the end, after nearly a month, Osmeña couldn’t find a proper reason why he went berserk and ended up with another lie. As I pointed out in my column yesterday, if Osmeña wanted the media circus to die down a proper apology would have sufficed. But then, just like his former boss, former president Benigno “PNoy” Aquino III who could not issue a simple apology when Hong Kong tourists were killed at the Quirino Grandstand by a deranged policeman who was under the control of the Office of the President. Birds of the same sick feather talaga!

So now, Osmeña will be in the US for a month, hopefully he will return to Houston and get his urinary bladder fixed because now he has the time to do what he couldn’t when that medical problem appeared, and we hope he will use that free time for a proper soul searching as to what he did and make amends if he can find it in his heart. As far as many people are concerned, Osmeña has lost his opportunity to get back to the mayor’s office. I guess it’s time to end the media circus!

The other day, I informed my good friend from the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Dino about a great opportunity that suddenly fell on us when a building was demolished in order to construct another building. I’m referring to a building along Escario Extension which means you have to drive along from Ayala Center and stop at the corner of Escario Extension and Gorordo Avenue.

This is a road wherein motorists have to turn a little to the right as they enter the main Escario Street. Now if the Department of Public Works and Highways or even Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella or the Cebu City Council passed by this road, they would notice that if they slice a small triangle on that property, they would really fix Escario St. and make it easier for motorists to pass through this major thoroughfare. Perhaps we should call the attention of my good friend, Rep. Raul del Mar of Cebu City’s Northern District to fund this road-right-of-way problem.

I dare say that we are given a golden opportunity to fix our roads to make traffic easier and at this point, I hope that Cebu City will not give any building permit to the lot owner until they resolve this problem. I hope that the DPWH officials or the Regional Development Council can see what I have seen so we can build a better Cebu!

Still on the issue of roads that are under construction, surely by now people have realized that my dream of having all the roads in Cebu cemented is being realized with so many roads being worked on today. Yesterday, I passed by Bonifacio Street and yes, they are also cementing that road, which means now that it would be cemented when the river overflows, it won’t destroy the road, which the river usually does when the road is asphalted.

Mind you, near my residence in Capitol Hills, they are fixing the Villalon Road and also started along Juana Osmeña Extension. My only concern is that traffic authorities should get involved because when the road is only a one-way road, cars have to wait, but those stupid motorcycles do not follow the line, which I hate the most.

Finally, while we have to wait for nearly a month to have our roads fixed we have a problem where the garbage trucks can no longer enter our roads, which means we cannot have any garbage collection for a month! So will the DPS send a smaller vehicle to collect our garbage?
