We need to watch Comelec this time

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Valeriano Avila - The Freeman

Because this is the final week for campaigning by all candidates seeking an elective post, it is also our final candidates’ presentation on our talkshow Straight from the Sky. So we bring to you former Cebu governor and incumbent Congresswoman Gwen F. Garcia with her running mate Daphne Salimbangon. In this show, we give you the best years when Cebu had the first woman governor of our province. She was also the governor who declared Cebu insurgency-free, which meant that business flourished because of the peace we had during Gwen’s term.

There is no question that Cebu Province needs to restore many things that the six years of nothing that Governor Davide III gave dynamic Cebu. Like a fool, he insists on building that 20-story resource center at the Provincial Capitol, an edifice that Cebu Province doesn’t need and so many people outside Cebu City complain the governor did not put it anywhere in Cebu Province. Worst of all, Governor Davide did not take into consideration the bad traffic that is already happening along Escario Street, hence his building will only worsen that traffic and his boss Mayor Tomas Osmeña did not block this, unlike what he did with the Ciudad Project.

This is why Cebu needs a new leadership that I’m more than positive Gwen can give us. But if you want to vote for Gwen so she can succeed, then you must also vote for Daphne Salimbangon so there will be a smooth operation in the Capitol. So watch this interesting discussion with Gwen Garcia and Daphne Salimbangon tonight on SkyCable’s channel 53 at 8 p.m. with replays on Wednesday and Saturday same time and channel. We also have replays on MyTV’s channel 30 at 9 p.m. Monday and at 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday.

Indeed, this is the last week for campaigning for all senatorial bets and candidates in the local government positions. But I’m deeply disturbed by what is being presented in social media that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in different parts of the country gave pre-shaded ballots for the coming May 13 elections. In fact one ballot revealed under ultraviolet light that names were already chosen.

So the big question we’d like to know is whether or not Comelec with Smartmatic will be doing another magic trick like what they did way back in the 2016 presidential elections. If you can recall, then DILG secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas was at the end of the presidential listing, but after the elections were over, Mar Roxas was second only to Mayor Duterte. Obviously, Smartmatic tried its best to overtake Duterte, but ran out of time. I honestly thought that Grace Poe would have been second to Duterte, but out of nowhere Mar Roxas beat everyone except Duterte.

How unfortunate for Filipinos to still be in denial about the shenanigans of Smartmatic in collusion with the Comelec. If after this election, Congress will still allow Comelec to still operate, then it is time for the Filipino people to do something to change things for this country.

So we appeal to all Filipino voters to be vigilant, that May 13 would bring a clean and honest elections for the Filipino nation otherwise it is time to kiss democracy goodbye.

Again, I would like to emphasize that today former Comelec chairman Andres Bautista is still missing and out of the country. He was exposed by no less than his own wife Patricia Bautista for having so much money placed in a small development bank. So ask yourself; how did Andres Bautista get so much money? Now wasn’t he the lackey of the Liberal Party who is now running under a different name called “Otso Deretso?” So let’s get our eyes and ears pealed for any Comelec issues.

Allow me to congratulate first of all, my good friend, Dean Joan Largo and the four graduates of the University of San Carlos Law School; Marcley Augustus Natu-el who ranked second with 87.5300%, followed by Mark Lawrence Badayos (third place) with 85.8420%, Jebb Lynus Cane (ninth place) with 84.8050%, and Alen Joel Pita (tenth place) with 84.6930%. Congratulations to USC for showing us that Cebuanos do not need to go to Ateneo to learn from a great school because USC is just as good as Ateneo!
