An evening of gratitude and recognition

ESSENCE - Ligaya Rabago-Visaya - The Freeman

It was an evening fitting for a man who has done so much to the community, and his legacy is worth pursuing by the present generation. The 85th birthday celebration of Dr. Jose "Dodong" R. Gullas last February 22 at the Grand Convention Center also coincided with by the centennial celebration of The Freeman. Sir Dodong, as chairman, is very instrumental on the paper’s revival.

In his birthday message, I could sense a man who has no other words to say but all thanks and praises to the people behind the very foundation of the newspaper. And also to the people who have helped continue the mission of the newspaper, by chronicling the significant stories of Cebu and its people.

The religious birthplace of gratitude, as a virtue, is especially developed in the major monotheistic conventions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Every custom accentuates the advancement of appreciation as a way to a decent life and recommends approaches for practicing.

Gratitude influences our physical wellbeing, which significantly impacts our profitability and quality of work. The act of being thankful creates and fortifies social connections.

Gratitude is accessible to us consistently; is we choose to seek out something positive we can perceive and savor. This can be something as straightforward as noticing how a blustery day is giving the greenery enclosure a decent beverage, regardless of whether the climate burdens your open-air designs. It can mean concentrating on the dear companions throughout your life when an associate makes you feel little. It can mean perceiving the beautiful shade of your eyes on the multi-day when you're feeling debilitated about your appearance.

Gratitude is a cornerstone of a healthy community and a good working environment. We can help engender gratitude by sharing the appreciation for others and celebrating their beneficial impact on our work. We can also help to recognize others in front of the whole community highlighting their contributions in various fields. And this is what happened when individuals and groups were recognized for the past 100 years. Who would forget the great contribution of the first Cebuano Chief Justice Marcelo Fernan? In music, where Cebuanos are known for, the musical legacy of Dulce and Pilita Corales is unparalleled as they both paved the way for other singers of the new generation. For putting the Philippine flag in the musical stage, the University of the Visayas Chorale was also being recognized.

There is surely a need to create and bolster a culture based on appreciation which is really the mystery, in a working environment for example, to increased employee retention, commitment, and productivity. There are significant effects that practicing appreciation has to change each part of our lives.

Being earnestly and genuinely thanked for doing great work not just helps an employee's feeling of self-esteem. However, it likewise makes a positive feedback loop. It feels great to realize that you helped fill somebody's heart with joy and it feels great to realize that somebody supposes profoundly enough of you that they value your work. What's more, also, individuals who get appreciation are undeniably bound to show preemptive kindness than the individuals who don't.
