Keeping the wheels turning

ESSENCE - Ligaya Rabago-Visaya - The Freeman

We as a whole know the significance of remembering the birthday of a noteworthy relative or companion, or our wedding anniversaries. Despite the fact that we value our companions and relatives each day of the year, a commemoration provides a sense of focus and event that makes the celebration even more meaningful. The same can be said for historical commemorations associated with a community. A centennial, sesquicentennial, or other significant commemoration of a major event, for example, the founding of a community, a birth date of a significant historical citizen or the anniversary of a major happening in the community.

Ten years ago, for example, the University of the Philippines celebrated its centennial. And since its foundation on June 18, 1908, the university has kept up its place as the county's national and premier institution of higher learning by delivering leaders in both government and industry, trailblazers in the arts and humanities, and innovators in science and engineering.

It is in this momentous celebration that we are appreciative of the individuals who, in the mediating decades, have worked to fulfill the dreams of the founders and to hand off a solid legacy to all who currently extend their vision across the country over and around the globe through its digital presence.

Nowadays, with the help of internet technologies, the eNewspaper is replacing the printed version. And the biggest benefit for people is that they can read newspapers on tablets, computer, and mobile devices.

When one thinks about how the world looked 100 years ago, the technologies and cultural trends that seemed innovative and transformative at that time have been surpassed beyond anything that could have been imagined. Given the incredible increase in the rate of change, innovation, and development, we will probably look even more primitive in the eyes of those who gather to celebrate the centennial.

And for The FREEMAN that is celebrating its 100 years, it continues to be an important part of our life. Yes, it's not looking that much important after digital evolution but people who know its importance are still buying and reading The FREEMAN.

Centennial celebration means looking back at the significant milestones and planning out for the future in order to keep its relevance. It also means longevity and triumphs amid difficulties and the dedication of the people in keeping the wheels turning.

Paper and news can assume a vital role in the advancement of training in any nation by utilizing the news as a pragmatic example of theory students are learning through books. For example, if understudies are learning in school about demonetization strategies, inconveniences, and points of interest then teachers can showcase the demonetization content from the newspaper. They can incorporate how demonetizations affect society and authentic life experiences.

For The FREEMAN's 100 years of existence, we honor the visionary leaders who founded over a century this great paper. It's now time to continue their work for the benefit of future generations.

And the major players of this great celebration are the founders or prime movers and their vision, the people and their unique stories.

For The FREEMAN, it is indeed 100 years of fruitful chronicling the stories of Cebu and connecting it to the country, and the world. Congratulations and cheers! Mabuhi ug padayon, The FREEMAN!
