Deaths, disasters, devastation in 2019

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez - The Freeman

We do not aspire to become like a prophet of doom, much less a bearer of bad news. But all indications point out to one clear direction. The nature’s fury shall be very relentless and unforgiving.

And so, while we embark on Build, Build, Build, the wrath of nature in 2019 shall go on a rampage of Destroy, Destroy, Destroy. There shall be big and destructive typhoons and tsunamis. Thousands shall die and many lives shall be lost at sea and in land, either by flood or by landslides.

There shall be volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and fires. This year is a year of many tragedies and devastation.

Man has abused nature for so long. It is time for nature to strike back, with a vengeance and with a fury little known before. Agricultural crops shall be inundated and destroyed, dams shall burst, and towns and communities shall be flooded.

Farms and poultry, fish pens, and all sources of food production shall be destroyed. There will be famine as food security shall be put in jeopardy. We cannot remedy this with importation because the sources of our imported rice, like Thailand and Vietnam, will also face the same natural destruction. And with famine, there shall be riots and mass conflicts and peace and security shall be a great problem.

Secondary to typhoons, floods and other natural disasters are the usual diseases of cholera, dysentery, and other related ailments due to contaminated water and the overflow of sewage. There shall be great tragedies of epidemics and diseases upsurges putting the capability of government and people to survive amid these series of “slings and arrows of outrageous fortunes”.

Then, as if these are not enough, there shall be unabated series of political killings and election-related violence. This election year will turn out to be very bloody, may yet be the bloodiest in all history.

Mining companies will be closed. But only for show. For election purposes. There is no good faith behind, all just to show the people that government do cares. The illegal miners, especially those doing open-pit operations, have been destroying our forests, polluting our rivers and seas, and devastating the sources of livelihood of our subsistence farmers.

Honest people like Gina Lopez were ousted from the DENR because the big-money taipans want to continue, in the name of insatiable greed, to suck all wealth from our land. The mining moguls have their billions, while the poor continue to wallow in poverty and social injustice. With retired military officials at the helm of the DENR, the moguls get protection from the rebels who might even love the country more.

But the wrath of nature shall bring all miners and their protectors to their knees. There is no escape from Nature’s justice. Thus, the year 2019 is a year when justice shall wreck its vengeance on all the sinners and abusers.
