Digging deeper into Comelec corruption

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Philippine Star

When my good friend, Atty. Glenn Chong, former Congressman of Biliran Island appeared before a Senate investigating committee on the 2016 Automated Elections, it revived many questions that we raised not just during the 2016 Presidential elections… but for all the automated elections ever held in this country since 2010. Right now only the folks are questioning the same issues in the social media network. But with the 2019 mid-term elections getting nearer and nearer, it is high time for us to warn Filipinos about how Smartmatic has literally conned our elections that somehow even Pres. Rodrigo Duterte failed to look into for the sake of the Filipino people.

Please don’t take it from me, after all I’ve written about what Smartmatic has done in the last elections in this corner. But a good friend Antonio Javier Belunze wrote this note in my Facebook page.

“Smartmatic as a foreign company shows no respect for the transparency and accountability of Philippine elections, hence no respect for Filipinos. It has been also obvious that politicians are colluding with Comelec-Smartmatic partnership purely focused on monetary gain. How can they justify a transaction when increasing the quantity purchase of PCOS machines instead of discounted value for increased number ordered. The price increased enormously. This happened prior to the 2016 elections.

Even the principles of scanning to preserve digital images have been manipulated with square boxes appearing in the scanned digital image. So why use this OMR scanner that you can manipulate the stored output digital image? As experts advised that OCR scanners should have been the preferred technology for mirror image digital storage accuracy. It has character recognition to simply store the votes in a central database. No need to introduce complex scripts as through automatically query reporting databases.”

Actually there is more that Sonny Belunze wrote, but I had to edit this piece because I know it is too technical for the ordinary folk to read through. But he did add this comment when he said, “I have always insisted from Day 1 that the completely unnecessary changing of the letter “N” to “Ñ” in the dead of the night bits an actual patch to alter the logic flow of the program. It only takes 1 b that as a matter of fact is switch to do it.” What Sonny Belunze complained about was that Facebook removed this comment which exposes cheating in the elections in the Philippines. But I learned that Facebook put the comment back online.

With the 2019 mid-term elections coming very soon in 2019, we need the Duterte government to focus on the corruption by the Commission on Election (Comelec) in collusion with Smartmatic. Believe me Mr. President that if you will give time to look into this corruption then the Filipino people would appreciate you all the more. All you need to do Mr. President is feel the anguish of the Filipino people who have been conned by a foreign company called Smartmatic who corrupted the Comelec. You need more proof, just ask yourself where is former Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista with his alleged millions hidden in 33 accounts in the Luzon Development Bank and where is Mr. Bautista, why isn’t he not in the country?

I interviewed newly appointed Cebu City Councilor Erick Espina in my TV show and I learned that he is seeking a million signatures with a group called, Inday Sara Duterte for Senator Movement, which he says is going to be a national campaign. Apparently we learned that Sara Duterte is one person that her father Pres. Duterte listens to. I haven’t met Sara yet but I asked my friends to bring her to my TV studio so I could interview her. I hope she would find the time to come to Cebu. From what I gathered about Sara, she is level headed and would turn out to be a potentially good Senator.

I just came from the media presentation of Cebu City’s latest Cantonese restaurant called Hai Shin Lou Seafood King which is located at the Marco Polo Hotel lobby. Indeed, it’s been a long time for Marco Polo Plaza Hotel to open a Chinese restaurant and no less than former Marco Polo GM, Hans Hauri came to greet us with Alfred Ty of Metrobank.

What I liked the most was the announcement by Hai Shin Lou owner Al Tengco that Hai Shin Lou would soon offer roasted duck, a Cantonese dish that I always look forward to when visiting Hong Kong. But if this dish is offered in Marco Polo Plaza in Cebu, there’s no need for me to go to Hong Kong anymore as I’m sure that as Mr. Tengco promised us… Hai Shin Lou will be the best Cantonese food in Cebu!
