Widow can’t claim hubby’s AFP benefits

NOT LEGAL WIFE. A widow who waited a few years after her soldier husband died to claim his benefits from the government was dismayed after she was told she could not get them.

The reason? According to Army records her late husband was still considered legally married to his wife at the time.

It was also not immediately known if the legal wife then was still getting benefits now. The widow later told The EAR the problem gets bigger because he had many women between the first wife and her.
