Noynoy's love life no longer flies
If everything else fails, try love, or so Kris thought as she tried to regale the nation with the idea that her bachelor brother the president might be dating again, this time new Miss Philippines-Universe Pia Wurtzbach. What Kris didn't know is that the jig is up. All those pretty maids she previously lined up for Noynoy were all just for show. As everyone knows by now, Grace Poe apparently has more balls than Noynoy.
Any man will tell you it is virtually impossible for anyone to hook up an impeccable beauty each time. There are times when a man sees something else other than just beauty. To portray, therefore, someone as plain-looking as Noynoy to be a magnet for nothing but beautiful women is to tax credulity to the limits of the universe. Such a yarn can never fly on its face. It is simply too corny and smells too contrived and fishy it has to be a cover-up for something.
There was a time when such a ploy would work. Filipinos, after all, are hopeless romantics and no one misunderstands romance more than Kris. And so, every time Noynoy gets caught in some crisis of sorts, it did pay to distract a distraught public with tales of a possible romance in the air between Noynoy and some beautiful girl. But the public can only wait with bated breath for so long. When nothing happened to those supposed romances, the public snickered and dropped the idea.
And now, not only in romance but it is too late as well for everything for Noynoy. He has passed up too many opportunities to stay relevant in anything, be it about girls or the more imperative issues requiring his attention as a leader. Noynoy has failed to act decisively and resolutely on anything for the good of the nation. The expectations of many have been deeply frustrated it is only a matter of time before the rats on his burning ship start jumping.
The sad thing is even if Noynoy eventually does some of the things expected of him, they will no longer be relevant. Stale gestures are the sad and sorry fate of actions that come too late to mean anything. In the Mamasapano incident, saying sorry and taking responsibility this late in the day will only expose his lack of sincerity, which is what happens when one only goes through the motions or acts only as an afterthought.
Sorry to disappoint the intellectual genius of Kris but not even a romance with a name Hollywood star can distract the nation from the pathetic mess that her brother has created out of this once hopeful nation. No convincing is necessary for anyone to feel Noynoy has done almost absolutely nothing worthwhile in his first five years in office. And there is little in his words and demeanor to indicate he can do anything in his last remaining year.
No longer able to answer credibly the mounting criticisms of his leadership, Noynoy has gone back to what he does best -- making empty threats and calling anyone who is not with him as against him. What kind of a person would publicly scold the host of the affair to which he has been invited? What kind of a leader would pick a fight with his subordinates?
His mouthpieces try to steer the discussion away by urging the nation to move on toward the path of reform. That is just like Kris cooking up another romance for Kuya. Just as Noynoy cannot move on with his personal life, so can the nation not move on toward reform. The reform being outlined by Noynoy is a sham and a shallow one at that. No wang-wang? Eating hotdogs on a sidewalk? Why doesn't he talk about the DAP and the PDAF? Why doesn't he talk about Purisima and Abad?
True he has removed or caused to be detained several people as part of his much-ballyhooed anti-corruption campaign. But this is all just a farce. The truth of the matter is, all of those detained have not yet been convicted in any court of law. And it is no small matter that all of them just simply happened to be his enemies. Another enemy he removed from office was convicted in a trial where much of the evidence was obtained by suspicious if not downright illegal means.
The only way Noynoy can claim real credit for a successful anti-corruption campaign is if he also sends to jail even just a few of his perceptively corrupt friends and allies.
But Noynoy is simply not equipped as a person and as a leader to do that. He simply has no balls to do what he imagines himself doing. All of this time he is just walking as if in a trance. Or like the walking dead. The problem is, we are being made to walk right behind him.
So maybe Kris should just stop trying to cook up images of her brother being engaged in yet another potential romance because the story is no longer cute or appealing. It no longer tugs at the heart of all the hopeless romantics out there. In fact his always being left with the empty bag has made those romantics even more hopeless. Just like his politics.
