THE EAR - The Freeman

SOLDIER. A soldier works, nay, fights for the country. When he is badly wounded in action and can no longer be of service to the nation, he becomes a jobless person. Of course, there's a law that entitles him to a monthly pension of P1,700. Is that enough?

PITTANCE. Considering the high cost of living, a pension of P1,700 a month is pittance. It's not enough to keep even a single person's body and soul intact. A soldier's wife was heard calling it "unchristian." There should be a law giving our soldiers who have become disabled from fighting for our country a much better deal.
