10 repatriated OFWs positive for COVID-19

Edith Regalado - The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Ten repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who arrived in this city this month have tested positive for COVID-19.

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio confirmed yesterday that three of those infected arrived from Bangladesh on July 15 and seven from Dubai on July 18.

At least 138 OFWs repatriated from Dhaka and 350 from Dubai arrived on chartered Philippine Airlines flights.

“They were placed in designated temporary treatment and monitoring facilities for OFWs,” Carpio said.

The mayor said they would refer the cases to the Department of Health for assistance in contact tracing.

The OFWs were subjected to reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction testing 48 hours before their flight.

Returning OFWs in this city are quarantined and undergo another swab test on the seventh day.

Those who test negative are sent home after completing the 14-day quarantine period.
