BAGUIO CITY — With its welcoming ambiance, cool weather, impeccable facilities and pine-covered landscape, The Manor in Baguio City paints the picture of a perfect Christmas.

This picture was made more colorful and inviting when Camp John Hay’s iconic hotel was lighted for the holidays last November 14. Its giant Christmas tree came alive with projected displays—proof that The Manor is keeping up with the times. During this light show, the façade of the hotel danced to the tune of Christmas melodies.

The Manor’s beautifully-manicured garden was also filled with Christmas lights and decor, as guests gathered for the official lighting ceremonies. They were served with traditional holiday fare that warmed their tummies and their hearts.

A chorale was also present to serenade the guests that included Camp John Hay Development Corporation executives led by Chairman Robert John Sobrepeña with his wife Lissa, and Baguio City officials led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan, the hotel’s most loyal corporate clients, Baguio’s social circles and national and local media.

“Our lighting marks the most joyous of seasons, Christmas, which is really a season for thanksgiving, and above all, an opportunity to give back,” said Camp John Hay Devco Executive Vice President Alfredo “Boysie” Yñiguez III in the welcoming remarks.

In this spirit, The Manor shared the love and joy to children with autism.

“For this year’s theme, we want to raise awareness for children identified with autism. Autism is a lifelong condition characterized by deficits in communication and social skills, and challenging behaviors among others,” Yñiguez said.

He continued, “Every child with autism has an unknown talent. And we are honored to be able to share the gifts of children with autism through the arts.”

The Manor shone the brightest spotlight to their most special guests. In partnership with Autism Hearts Foundation, the hotel featured select piña pieces handpainted by children with autism in a fashion show. Piña scarves, terno and barong became colorful with floral and coral paintings.

The pieces are the result of the Autism Hearts Foundation’s FAAB program, which stands for Fashion. Arts. Autism. Benefits.

“We are thankful to work with you in bringing brighter life to those challenged by autism through our project Fashion Arts Autism Benefit. This project is a form of art therapy that develops the skills and talents of a child with autism to greater heights. It helps them cope with their challenges in social skills, communication and behavior management while at the same time showcases their artistic talents,” said Linda Borromeo, founder and president of the Autism Hearts Foundation in California.

The children who made the artworks were then introduced and received a most touching applause.

Beyond the fashion show and the Christmas lighting ceremony, The Manor and Camp John Hay has sponsored the establishment of a center for Autism Hearts Foundation in Baguio City.

Children with autism were The Manor's most special guests during its tree-lighting ceremonies, where they were also provided with art activities. Released
