For the fifth consecutive year, the Marco Polo Hotel Hong Kong  team visited Manila to give an update on what’s happening in Hong Kong.

As we all know, there is a dip in tourist arrivals in Hong Kong due to the protests but the Marco Polo team believes that the former Crown Colony is still worth visiting. Friends who have been to Hong Kong said the Kowloon side is not really affected by the protests so nowadays, shopping is less crowded and restaurants are easier to book!

Before heading to Marco Polo hotels in the Philippines, the team, led by Marco Polo Hotels-Hong Kong general manager Dalip Singh, hosted a dinner at Blackbird in Makati City.

Dalip will be in charge of the three very popular hotels on Canton Road: Marco Polo Hongkong, Gateway and Prince. These hotels are classic Hong Kong places to stay, all located at the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon and part of Harbour City, Hong Kong’s largest shopping complex with over 450 international brands.

Dalip, who is the former hotel manager of Marco Polo Hotels-Hong Kong, is a seasoned hotelier with more than 20 years of experience holding senior management positions with The Ritz Carlton and Dusit Hotels in Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai.

Also present at the dinner were Marco Polo’s Samantha Poon, who always is a great host in Hong Kong whenever I stay in the hotel; and Harbour City’s Karen Tam, who mentioned that due to low tourists arrivals in Hong Kong, a lot of shops in Harbour City have significantly reduced their prices and there are so many pop-up sales all over Hong Kong now.

Harbour City’s flagship stores from different famous international brands are concentrated at Canton Road, including Asian flagship Louis Vuitton Maison, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Hermès, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo and Valentino. Then there’s Lane Crawford that offers the largest assortment of designer brands in Asia including the newest fashion from around the globe in womenswear, menswear, shoes and accessories, lingerie, jewelry, cosmetics, and home and lifestyle.

Lane Crawford and its cosmetic concept store Facesss feature more than 320 cosmetics and beauty brands from around the world. Apart from shopping, Harbour City also offers Vita, a beauty zone with over 20 outlets of skin and body care, which allows visitors to enjoy a relaxing experience to freshen up their mind and body.

Harbour City also has over 70 restaurants. The Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2019 recommended 227 restaurants including three one-star outlets of Harbour City — Épure, Sushi Tokami, and Yè Shanghai.

Does this entice you to go to Hong Kong soon? Do stay at one of these wonderful hotels!

‘Color of Hope’

The Erwin Piedad Cabanag Adult Leukemia Ministries (EPCALM) celebrated World Leukemia Awareness Month late last month with the launch of the coffee table book Color of Hope at the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall.

EPCALM was founded in 2005 by Dr. Erlyn Cabanag Demerre after her brother, lawyer Erwin Piedad Cabanag, succumbed to leukemia in 2015. It is a Christ-centered, non-profit organization that supports leukemia patients and their families.

Color of Hope tells the heartwarming accounts not only of leukemia patients but also of the people around them.  Demerre said, “The book is actually a peek into the journey of the patients, their trials, their triumphs... and how people have been woven together into their lives to help them.”

During the event, Boy Abunda led a dialogue aimed at raising awareness on leukemia. Celebrity advocates like Tirso Cruz III, Top Suzara, Pops Fernandez and Martin Nievera were also at the event to support the cause. Also present at the event were advocates Linda Ley, Jonalyn Lim, Sheila Romero, Nikki Tang, Ruby Tan and Sunny Vergara, who were part of the photo exhibit.

Color of Hope is published by ABS-CBN Books and will be released in November.

Stronger smiles

To encourage parents to unlock the inner strength of their children by ensuring that they have strong, healthy smiles, Colgate recently launched its “Ngiting Pinatibay” campaign.

During the event, emceed by Patty Laurel-Filart, a short panel discussion was held with a dentist, a grade school student and a teacher from Taguig City to share the importance of having strong teeth and inner strength. I love how this campaign emphasizes the importance of developing grit among children, a trait I think everyone should have to face life’s challenges.

Taguig City-Pateros Rep. Laarni Cayetano, Education Undersecretary Tonisito Umali, and local public health dental association leaders were present at the event.

Colgate-Palmolive Philippines Inc. president and general manager Arvind Sachdev and marketing director Emily Fong Mitchell also launched the new Colgate Maximum Cavity Protection Toothpaste with Amino Power, a booster that helps strengthen teeth from within. Actress and TV host Karla Estrada was also introduced as its new brand ambassador.

A dance performance by elementary students from Taguig City capped the event.

This new Colgate product is now available nationwide, and it still has the classic Colgate flavor we all love. It’s definitely going to be a staple in my house.
