Terry’s Bistro held a special gathering of corporate clients and close friends to honor the visit of Edmond de Rothschild Heritage (EDRH) brand ambassador Pierre-Alexandre Gazaille.

Pierre took guests “around the world” to showcase different wines from EDRH’s diverse vineyards.  Juan Carlos de Terry and his culinary team prepared a nine-course degustation menu, which was a French-inspired cuisine with a “touch of Terry’s.”

A bottle of Rimapere Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2015 was paired with Terry’s traditional roasted almonds followed by Baroness Nadine Chardonnay 2014 with an appetizer of blinnis of smoked salmon rolled with caper cream. Cheese came next as Bleu d’Auvergne chocolate truffle with pine nuts went well with Rimapere Pinot Noir Marlborough 2015. My favorite cod fish tartare in a crispy cheese basket was served with Flechas de los Andes Gran Malbec 2011.

A dish of French lentils from Puy topped with a sobrasada croquette was served with Macan Classic Rothschild-Vega Sicilia Rioja 2013. A serving of a shrimp dish marinated in Armagnac and cooked in blue cheese sauce was served with Les Laurets Puisseguin Saint-Emilio. The duck breast on caramelized red capsicum cream was paired with Chateau Clarke 2008.  Dessert was a heavenly Roquefort ice cream on an old Pedro Ximenez sherry reduction.

It was a truly wonderful wine-pairing dinner that is always expected from Terry’s.

(These wines are now available at Terry’s on Pasong Tamo, Salcedo Village and The Podium.)

The Shortest Distance

Young artist Celine Lee recently staged her first solo exhibition titled The Shortest Distance at Art Underground Gallery in Mandaluyong City.

For this exhibit, Lee used thread and paint on Aida cloth, an open-weave fabric used for cross-stitching. Most of the artist’s works displayed during the exhibit came in sets: one painted and one stitched. The biggest piece on display was made of pure stitching. Lee made this piece with cross-stitching not as a craft but as pure art.

Other pieces in the exhibit included a painted person on a telephone together with a set of three stitches that represented the sound waves of “Hello,” “Okay” and “Goodbye,” which are the most used words on the phone. Another was a piece called Lift, an oil painting on an elevator with the elevator buttons sewn. This came with a piece of pure stitching called Levels.

“Almost everything that exists within and outside of our senses can be measured; from the time that it takes you to read this, to the distance of the text to your eyes; and even in the most mundane tasks of everyday life, we live by a number of scientific and mathematical principles — often overlooking what it implies about our lives,” Lee said.

Watch out for this young artist!
