LTO summons SUV driver over 307 EDSA busway violations

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver of a sport utility vehicle or SUV allegedly involved in 307 unauthorized entries into the exclusive EDSA busway since 2022.
The LTO placed the vehicle under alarm while a probe is ongoing.
LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II confirmed yesterday that show-cause orders (SCO) were issued to the driver as well as the registered owner of the SUV.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has asked the LTO to investigate the repeated traffic violations on the EDSA busway.
“The SCO was in response to the request of MMDA Chairman Don Artes to look into the case of this repeat offender of the exclusive bus lane along EDSA,” Mendoza said.
He said the investigation would identify the person driving the SUV at the time the 307 violations were done.
Of the number, 14 were recorded on closed-circuit television footage under the no-contact apprehension policy.
Records show that the SUV, a Mitsubishi Montero, was last registered in August 2022.
The LTO ordered the owner of the SUV and the driver to submit a written explanation.
The driver is facing complaints for repeated disregard of traffic signs and obstruction, as well as for being deemed an improper person to operate a motor vehicle under Section 27 of Republic Act 4136.
The SUV owner will be charged for failure to comply with the registration of motor vehicles.
The LTO said failure to appear during the hearing or submit a written explanation will be considered a waiver of the suspects’ rights to be heard.
