Makati gets COA’s unmodified opinion for 8th time

MANILA, Philippines — For eight consecutive years, the Commission on Audit (COA) has issued an “unmodified opinion” on Makati’s financial statements.
An unmodified opinion means that the COA has determined the statements are “presented fairly” in accordance with applicable financial reporting framework.
Makati first received this audit opinion in 2017.
“This latest audit report from COA is another crowning glory for my administration,” outgoing Mayor Abby Binay said in a statement yesterday.
“It is an indisputable proof of our commitment to the pillars of good governance: efficiency, transparency and accountability,” she added.
Binay said the city’s accounting department has been recognized as the outstanding accounting office by the Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines, with the conferment of the audit opinion being a major factor for this award.
Makati has also earned distinctions from various government agencies, such as the Anti-Red Tape Authority and the Department of Finance, for fully complying with online government delivery services and sustaining fiscal autonomy through local revenue sources.
The audit opinion comes as Binay concludes her nine-year term as Makati mayor on June 30.
