Zamboanga del Sur info officer shot dead by bodyguard
COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The information officer of the provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur was shot dead by his security escort in Vincenzo Sagun town on Thursday night.
Jesriel Himang was declared dead on arrival at the Margosatubig Regional Hospital due to gunshots to the nose, abdomen and arm according to Capt. Brainhulla Sakkam, chief of the Vincenzo Sagun police.
Sakkam identified the gunman as Reymond Lopecillo, who also allegedly shot and wounded Himang’s companion, Celquen Mae Arellano.
Sakkam said Himang and Lopecillo figured in a spat in a resort in Barangay Ambulon, which resulted in the shooting.
Responding police officers arrested Lopecillo and brought him to the police station for questioning.
Himang’s relatives said they would press charges against Lopecillo.
Investigation is ongoing.
