Chinese suspect attacks NBI agent
MANILA, Philippines — An entrapment operation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation in Parañaque last week turned violent after two Chinese nationals resisted arrest, with one of the suspects punching an NBI agent in the face.
The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by another Chinese who alleged that the suspects were withholding his passport and demanding P35,000 in exchange for its return.
The victim reportedly wanted to return to China after fleeing a scam hub.
NBI Intelligence Service assistant director Noel Bocaling said the situation escalated when one of the suspects attacked an agent.
The NBI agents restrained and handcuffed the suspects.
Three agents were reportedly injured during the scuffle.
The victim’s passport has been returned.
The suspects are being held at the NBI facility in Muntinlupa. They are facing charges of robbery, extortion, direct assault on persons in authority and violation of the Philippine Passport Act.
