Fire-hit Quezon City school opens today

MANILA, Philippines — Classes will open as scheduled today at the San Francisco High School in Quezon City even after eight classrooms used by Grades 9 and 10 students were destroyed by a fire yesterday.
“For the meantime, students will use the PAGCOR building, which is being used by the Senior High School,” the Department of Education said in a statement. “SHS students will hold classes in two shifts to accommodate the displaced sections.”
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze broke out at 10:55 a.m.
The fire reached the third alarm and and was extinguished before 12 noon.
School principal Marissa Lou Rodriguez said adjustments have been made to accommodate students returning to school today.
Students were advised to wear face masks due to lingering smoke and particles in the area.
Arson probers have yet to determine what caused the fire.
Meanwhile, one person was injured and 25 families were displaced after a fire razed houses along Basilio street in Barangay 517, Sampaloc, Manila yesterday.
