Korean fugitive hiding for 8 years caught

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has nabbed a Korean fugitive who has been wanted since 2017 for kidnapping and serious physical injury in Daegu City, South Korea.
Operatives from the NBI-Organized and Transnational Crimes Division and the Bureau of Immigration-Fugitive Search Unit caught Jang Seong Woong at his condominium in Pasay on Thursday.
Jang went to the Philippines as a tourist on May 1, 2017 – one month after he and his fellow gang members allegedly detained and hit their victim with a baseball bat over gambling debts.
“He was able to stay here as he just regularly reported before the Bureau of Immigration to extend him, but in 2020, he stopped reporting,” NBI Director Jaime Santiago told reporters in Filipino yesterday.
Authorities are preparing the fugitive’s deportation.
