Public warned vs fake Belmonte Facebook account
MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government has warned the public against a Facebook account impersonating Mayor Joy Belmonte.
In an advisory, the city said the fake account is being used to hack and deceive residents into giving personal information.
A screenshot from a conversation with the fake account showed the user asking for information that would give access to the victim’s account in messaging platform WhatsApp.
“Don’t give any personal information or click any link from this fake account,” the advisory read in Filipino.
Belmonte has a Facebook page with over 265,000 likes and almost 300,000 followers.
Those who need to reach out to the city government may call its Helpline 122 or visit its district action offices. Messages may also be sent to the official Quezon City Government Facebook page.
