AFP official faces court martial over rape charges
MANILA, Philippines — Rape and misconduct complaints have been filed by two junior military officers against a ranking official of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The senior military official is under restrictive custody after an initial probe found prima facie evidence to recommend general court martial proceedings against him, according to AFP public affairs office chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad.
“He was immediately relieved from his post upon the filing of the complaints,” Trinidad said.
After a legal review of the pretrial probe’s results, Trinidad said AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. would order court martial proceedings.
Protection of the two junior officers has been assured by the AFP.
“All forms of misconduct and breaches of military discipline are taken by the AFP with utmost seriousness,” the military said.
