2 minors die in Bacolod fire

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Two children died while their grandfather was injured in a fire that struck their house in this city early yesterday morning.

The charred remains of the victims, aged eight and six years, were found by firefighters at the scene of the incident.

The victims’ grandfather, Eduardo Gutierrez, 63, was taken to a hospital for treatment. He suffered burns in the arms and face after he tried to rescue his grandchildren, according to the Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection.

Probers said the fire may have been caused by an unattended candle.

Reports said there was a power outage in the area the night before, prompting residents to light candles.
