Marcos to name Marbil successor

MANILA, Philippines — With Philippine National Police chief Rommel Marbil’s term extension ending in June, President Marcos is expected to announce the next PNP head soon, Malacañang said yesterday.
At a Palace briefing, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro was asked to comment about those who are being eyed to replace Marbil, including Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. and Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
Nartatez is the PNP deputy chief for administration. Torre heads the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
“The names you mentioned are people of integrity and excellence,” Castro said. “So far, nothing has been communicated to us. Let’s just wait for the President’s announcement.”
Marbil reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 on Feb. 7.
The President extended Marbil’s term to June amid the midterm elections.
