Termite gang steals P3.7 million jewelry, cash
MANILA, Philippines — Police have launched a manhunt for two members of the “Termite” gang who stole P3.7 million in jewelry and cash from a pawnshop in Quezon City on Tuesday.
The suspects dug a hole leading to EJM pawnshop at the corner of Quirino Highway and Susana street in Barangay Gulod, according to probers.
Police said the suspects dug the hole from a nearby drainage manhole.
The heist was discovered by employees of the pawnshop at around 4:46 a.m. They reported it to the Novaliches police station.
Closed-circuit television footage of the establishment showed the suspects emerging from the hole they created in the pawnshop.
Once inside, the burglars tampered with the surveillance system and disabled the alarm to avoid detection.
They forcibly opened a vault using an acetylene torch. They took jewelry valued at P3.5 million and P200,000 in cash.
An investigation is ongoing to identify the thieves.
