MANILA, Philippines — A man who threatened to bomb the Commission on Elections (Comelec) central office in Manila has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation.

The NBI said the suspect declared he would reward anyone who would plant a bomb in the Comelec headquarters on election day.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the suspect is “a heavy drug user.”

“He seems insane,” Santiago told The STAR yesterday.

The suspect will undergo a drug and psychiatric test.

Meanwhile, about 11.18 tons of campaign materials were dismantled after election day, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.

MMDA personnel removed posters and tarpaulins posted in public parks, electricity poles and bridges from May 13 to 14.

Dismantled campaign materials will be donated to Tahanang Walang Hagdan, Ecowaste Coalition and prisons for upcycling.

The Malabon city government on Tuesday deployed 150 personnel to start clearing operations.

In Muntinlupa, Mayor Ruffy Biazon said tarpaulins collected would be reused for livelihood projects.    –  Ghio Ong
