Vico Sotto demolishes Sarah Discaya in Pasig mayoral race

MANILA, Philippines (Published May 12; Updated 3:21 a.m. on May 13) — Incumbent Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto demolishes his rival Sarah Discaya in the mayoral race, according to partial and initial results from media transparency servers.

Sotto, who is running for a third and final term as mayor, moved for an early proclamation after the Board of Canvassers received 92% of the votes cast.

He garnered 326,481 votes while his rival, St. Gerrard Construction firm owner Discaya, received only 26,852 votes. The motion was denied, and Sotto’s tallied votes already account for seven out of every 10 cast.

He has endured a smear campaign marred by disinformation over the past months. Despite the attacks, he remains unfazed by efforts to discredit his programs and accomplishments over the past six years.

Sotto also faces a disqualification complaint filed by a former city hall employee over alleged violations of the financial aid ban, claims he has already refuted.

Based on transparency servers, Sotto has amassed 286,289 votes as of 2:32 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13. This is over 61.8% of the registered voters in Pasig City, which is around 463,000.

In other words, at least six in 10 registered voters in the city marked the incumbent mayor on their ballots during election day.

Sotto’s running mate and incumbent Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworksi is also leading in the midterm polls by a wide margin with 236,566 votes so far.

Contesting his position is Iyo-Carucho Bernardo, who presently has around one-fourth of the votes Jaworski managed to secure as of writing.
