Orange vs. Blue: Malapitan, Trillanes mark ballots as they face off in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines — It is orange versus blue in Caloocan City as leading mayoral candidates incumbent Mayor Along Malapitan and former senator Antonio Trillanes IV headed to polling sites on May 12.
Malapitan, wearing his signature brand of orange, was joined by his father, Rep. Oca Malapitan (1st District, Caloocan), who previously held the Caloocan City Mayoral seat.
The former senator, clad in his political color of blue, cast his vote at the Holy Montessori Elementary School while Malapitan voted at the Morning Breeze Elementary School.
Trillanes has positioned himself as a critic of the current local administration, running on a platform of local government reform and anti-corruption.
Malapitan, meanwhile, is campaigning on continuity, pledging to maintain the city’s current course.
In an April 2025 survey from the Social Weather Stations, Malapitan is enjoying a comfortable lead in voter preference with 82% in one of the country's most populous cities.
Trillanes trails with 14% in the survey representative of the city's 765,000 registered voters. However, he told reporters that despite Malapitan’s high numbers, his campaign also conducted surveys showing his lead.
“Sa survey namin, medyo komportable naman yung lamang natin. We’ll see (In our surveys we have a comfortable lead. We’ll see.) ,” Trillanes said.
Besides Trillanes and Malapitan, Richard Cañete and Ronnie Malunes are gunning for the mayoral seat.
