3 bogus cops caught with grenades

MANILA, Philippines — Three people posing as policemen were arrested for possession of hand grenades in Manila yesterday.
The suspects were traveling in a red car when members of the Meisic police station stopped them at the corner of Yuchengco and San Vicente streets at around 4:30 a.m.
Two of them were in police uniforms, but could not show proof that they were police officers.
The third man who was in civilian clothes acted as the driver.
The arresting police personnel found a hand grenade in the vehicle’s center console.
A second grenade was found in the pocket of one of the suspects.
Probers recovered from the suspects two firearms, police uniforms and a pair of license plates.
Police said the suspects were involved in a robbery case in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. One of them was a person of interest in a murder case in Bulacan last year.
Charges of usurpation of authority, illegal use of police uniform, illegal possession of explosives and violation of the election gun ban will be filed against the suspects.
