PAGASA: LPA may form, become typhoon in Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) may develop and progress into a typhoon in Mindanao on the first day of May, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
PAGASA also said that the intertropical convergence zone or ITCZ would continue to bring rains in the south.
“By Monday, rains will persist in most areas in Mindanao and Visayas as well as in Palawan due to the ITCZ. The rest of the Visayas and Mimaropa will also experience rains by Tuesday,” PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said at a briefing.
Estareja warned of a “dangerous heat index of 42 degrees Celsius in Palawan, Aurora, Albay and parts of Cagayan.”
