Valenzuela warehouse fire reignites

MANILA, Philippines — A fire that struck a factory in Barangay Veinte Reales, Valenzuela City on Friday reignited yesterday before being declared under control.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the blaze began at around 5 p.m. on April 18 and escalated by 7:50 p.m., prompting firefighters from nearby areas to respond.
The factory, which manufactures plastic products and shampoo, contained highly flammable chemicals that fueled the fire and hampered efforts of firefighters to extinguish it.
Firefighters initially declared the blaze under control on Saturday morning, but the BFP said the fire reignited at 1:09 p.m. yesterday. The fire was declared out at 3 p.m.
Workers said the fire started in a warehouse that stored waste materials. No one was reported inside the factory when the fire broke out.
Although the facility is located near a residential area, the BFP said no homes were affected.
Some residents evacuated as a precautionary measure. Authorities said no casualties or injuries were reported.
Arson probers are still determining what caused the fire and the estimated cost of damage to property.
In Manila, a fire struck a residential-commercial building at the corner of Kalimbas and Bambang streets in Sta. Cruz yesterday morning.
The BFP said the fire began at around 11 a.m. and reached the second alarm after three minutes.
Firefighters responded and managed to contain the fire at 11:43 a.m.
The fire was declared out at 11:58 a.m.
Investigators said the fire possibly originated from an eatery located on the ground floor of the building.
