Taguig cops relieved for ‘abuse of authority’

MANILA, Philippines — Police officers in Taguig involved in alleged abuse of authority have been relieved from their posts.
Based on closed-circuit television footage that went viral on social media, the officers forcibly entered the house of a senior citizen and two teenagers.
“The sub-station commander and six police personnel have been relieved and disarmed pending investigation,” National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) spokesperson Maj. Hazel Asilo told The STAR.
“Allegedly, police entered the house because there was a search warrant and reports of illegal drugs in the area. That is the only information we have received so far,” Asilo noted.
The video showed a police officer trying to take a teenager’s cell phone while another attempted to arrest the elderly.
Misconduct or abuse of power by any member of the police force is not tolerated, the NCRPO said.
