Driver, villager die as truck rams houses in Davao

John Unson - The Philippine Star

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — A 65-year-old villager died after a wayward boom-type crane truck rammed small houses along the highway in Matanao town in Davao del Sur, an accident that also left the driver dead on Friday.

Matanao town police told reporters yesterday that the truck was on a downhill portion of the highway when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit several houses in Barangay Ashang.

Investigators identified the resident as Ferino Collamat and the driver as Jeffrey Nacion. The two died while being transported to a hospital.

The truck helper survived the accident but sustained bruises and contusions, investigators said.
