SUV driver in fatal hit-and-run in Pasig hunted

Rhodina Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Police have launched a manhunt for a driver of a white sport utility vehicle (SUV) who allegedly killed a motorcycle rider in a hit-and-run incident in Pasig.

The SUV with license plate NGJ-6382 was involved in an accident along the Ortigas flyover in Barangay Ugong at around 1 a.m. on Monday, police said.

The victim, 34-year-old Leonel Latina, of Mandaluyong City, was traversing the flyover from Eastwood going to C5 Road when he collided with another motorcycle rider.

Pasig police chief Col. Hendrix Mangaldan said the two motorcyclists were discussing an amicable settlement when the speeding SUV arrived.

The SUV sideswiped Latina who was pushing his motorcycle to the side of the flyover.

Latina fell into a second flyover below as the SUV sped off toward an unknown direction.

A rescue team brought the victim to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mangaldan urged the SUV driver to surrender.

He said authorities would eventually obtain the suspect’s identity as investigators have coordinated with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for details about the vehicle, including its registered owner.

“Face the charges instead of hiding,” Mangaldan said.

The suspect could face cases of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
