MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos yesterday vowed to protect the rights of Filipino migrant workers and to undertake measures to make overseas work “a choice rather than a necessity” as he honored 13 groups and persons who brought honor to the Philippines and promoted the interests of Filipinos abroad.

Speaking at Malacañang during the conferment of the 2024 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas, Marcos said competence, work ethic and genuine care for other people make Filipinos “a remarkable race.”

According to him, whenever he meets world leaders, they always speak highly of Filipinos.

“We are in a globalized world, and talents will continue to move from one border to another. Annually, millions of people move across international borders to work,” the President said.
