NFA surpasses palay procurement target in Bulacan

MALOLOS, Philippines — The office of the National Food Authority (NFA) in Bulacan has surpassed its palay procurement target for this year.

Rhona Talens, NFA-Bulacan acting branch manager, said their procurement target in the province this year is only 280,000 bags and the agency was able to obtain 337,000 bags.

Talens said that harvest time for the wet cropping season is almost over and the agency continues to buy palay from farmers in Malolos.

She said the NFA is currently milling palay through private milling contractors.

Talens said the NFA has conducted a public bidding for the milling of palay and delivery of milled rice.

Talens said that milling contractors are paid in kind such as palay husks and by-products for their services.
