MANILA, Philippines — A gasoline station along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City was shut down yesterday following an alleged gas leak.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, officials of Barangay Vasra reported a strong smell of gas coming from the Power Fill station at around 8:30 a.m., prompting BFP personnel to cordon off the area.

Arson probers said they have yet to determine what caused the gas leak.

Representatives from the city government, BFP and Department of Environment and Natural Resources inspected the site.

The BFP said the underground fuel tank’s gas reserve should be siphoned before it can conduct a gas leak test.

Barangay Vasra councilman Amando Magayanes said residents complained about a foul odor emanating from the gas station.

“Passersby also complained of the pungent smell of diesel and kerosene in the area,” Magayanes said in Filipino.

He added they have closed Land street to motorists to prevent traffic should an explosion occur.

The Laguna Lake Development Authority conducted test samples on the gasoline coming from its valve below the station to determine its safety.
